Expandable Polystyrene
(Extracellular Polymeric Substances, EPS)

Name of the Products: Expandable Polystyrene
(Extracellular Polymeric Substances)
Appearance: Colorless or milky small granule
Density: About 0.6 g/cm3
Main composition: Expandable Polystyrene about 92%-95%
Expanding agent about 4%-8%
Water ≤0.5%
Free monomer about 0.1%-0.4%
(Depending on different classification)
Flame-retardant grade include flame-retardant agent (halogen compound, mainly bromide)
CFC (chloro-fluorocarbons) component free
Characteristics: EXPANDING
FWhen heating EPS particles through heating source (over 90℃), the extracellular polymeric substances particles are softened. Expanding agent let extracellular polymeric substances particles expand and the expandable times reach 40-80. The advantages of our products are low expanding temperature, quick velocity, high expandable times, and fewer steams.
MELTING
When heating extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) particles through heating source (over 110℃), the EPS particles become melting and adhesive. Considering low expanding and forming temperature, our products are more stable and easier for the Combining.
Package: 25kg kraft paper PP woven compound bag or 750kg/800kg Flexible Container (according to the client’s request)
Storage: The EPS need to be put on the place cool and ventilated, keep the storage temperature below 20℃ in order to minimize the lost of expanding agent from escaping. The lower the temperature is, the better the quality is. The EPS should avoid rain, fog, snow, direct sunlight, static electricity and the fire source. Once the package material is open, the product should be used up as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the remaining EPS might lose its function due to escaping of expanding agent. If the EPS is stored too long, the expandable times might decrease.

The chemical division of JOC Group is a specialist in the production and supply of extracellular polymeric substances.

Extracellular polymeric substances, which are also known as exopolysaccharide (or EPS) are compounds of high molecular weight that are released by some micro organisms into their surrounding environments. Primarily composed of polysaccharides, they can remain attached to the cell's exterior surface, or be secreted into its growth medium. EPS compounds play an important role in the formation of biofilm and cell adhesion.

EPS, composed of sugar residues, is also a critical component of cell aggregation and the protection of cells from adverse environmental conditions. In food and pharmaceutical industries, EPS has a diverse range of uses due to the wide variety of composition available.

Among the advantageous properties of EPS are as a viscosity enhancer and as a stabilizer in the dairy food industry. Extracellular polymeric substances can also find use as a plasma extender. Additionally, exopolysaccharides often facilitate the application of dextran for some bread products in the baking industry.
